Chilean scientists developed reversible dog neutering vaccine
On Oct. 4, 2024, scientists from the the University of Chile announced they had developed an injection that is an immunocastration vaccine called Egalitte that works by blocking the hormone in charge of reproduction and is reversible.
The procedure was conducted in the dog’s home in Santiago while being held by his owner and enticed with treats. The dog displayed no side effects and acted like nothing had happened.
The vaccine can be used for both males and females and costs about 50,000 Chilean Pesos ($54). It requires a veterinarian’s prescription and evaluation to ensure the dog is a suitable candidate.
