Bureau of Chemistry (now the FDA) Chief Harvey Wiley led the fight to institute a federal law to prohibit adulterated and mis-branded food and drugs. President Theodore Roosevelt signed the bill into law in 1906, known as the Pure Food and Drugs Act.
